Innovation in providing creative ways of learning can be found throughout ASU.
The Center for Professional Development delivers programs in traditional classroom
settings, as well as leveraging technology and creative software packages to
deliver professionals convenient "anytime, anyplace" quality program
via the Internet. The online courses integrate streamed media lectures, interactive
tools and simulations, animations, and other learning channels and course assets
to provide the distance learning students a variety of materials to enhance
and validate learning outcomes. The online courses and programs leverage a
variety of communication tools for students to interact in virtual team assignments,
as well as communication portals for interactive discussions with faculty.
In addition to the online engineering programs, ASU is a recognized leader
in innovative programming through a multiple campus system, distance learning,
and convenient scheduling during evenings and weekends. The innovative system
of learning infrastructure at ASU offers professionals the flexibility of acquiring
knowledge at their own pace, accelerated, or "normal" pace from 8
to 5 or anytime, at the convenience of their own environment. The global reach
of ASU education is appropriate for multiple audiences. It caters to people
searching for an advance degree, certification, or unemployed individuals attempting
to start a new career.
Dedicated staff is available to provide services from registration, technical
support, program advising, students support services, and faculty interface.
In addition, CPD has advanced evaluation capabilities to communicate post course
evaluations, report, and discuss the results of training with the employers
and Maricopa County.

Accomplishments & Recognition:
Considered one of the nation's premier research universities, Arizona State
University has achieved a high degree of excellence in their research endeavors.
In 1991 ASU was awarded the prestigious Research I status from the Carnegie
Foundation. Carnegie Research I universities are the premiere research institutions
in the nation, including only 88 universities nationally. Arizona State University
ranks among an even more select grouping of nine "Research I" universities
that have attained this award without the benefit of a medical school or
land grant status. ASU is research-driven but focused on learning—teaching
is carried out in a context that encourages the creation of new knowledge.
The faculty includes recipients of prestigious academic and professional
awards, including membership in the national academies. ASU currently ranks
sixth among public universities in its enrollment of freshmen merit scholars.
The university champions diversity, and is international in scope, welcoming
students from all 50 states and nations across the globe.
